Sleep your way to the top
Snoozing on the job doesn’t usually enhance your work prospects, but the bright sparks at global tech company Next Jump believe it can. Employees are encouraged to get their 40 winks during the day in a lunchtime sleep class. (Siri, remind us to apply for a job there.) The 30-minute session uses yoga techniques to lull attendees into a sleep-like state, and instructor Austeja Pozeraite claims it can be as energising as a four-hour snooze. If a lunchtime nap isn’t possible, she advises you to relax at your desk: “A body scan is a perfect way to battle tiredness. Shut your eyes and focus on relaxing each part of your body, from top to bottom. When worries enter your mind, notice them, then let them go.” Warning: closing your eyes when your boss is talking to you is a bad idea – tech companies or anywhere.
